Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as a news reporter and anchor with WPDE-TV. Then, she joined WCBD as an anchor in the morning and a crime reporter. Her articles from Charleston, about how the Charleston police handled DUI cases with care, caused an investigation by State Law Enforcement Division. The inquiry led to a stronger instruction for the state's authorities. Ms. O'Dell was awarded an award for the Best Report of the Award from the Associated Press for South Carolina's media. In the years following her stay at Charleston, O'Dell worked as anchor for the NBC's Miami Station WTVJ-TV and also as an investigative journalist. After that, she joined Access Hollywood to work as a weekday and weekend correspondent. She also works as co-anchor for Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She co-hosted several of Pre-ShowArrivals programs to The Emmys as well as The Golden Globe Awards. She hosted both the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.
